What we do on the land affects our water. If we want healthy water for ourselves and for future generations, then we need to make some changes. Many Southlanders are already taking steps to look after our water—both down on the farm and in our towns and cities.

Working together, we can achieve healthy water for a great future.

Changing what we do and how we do it won't be easy. We realise this is a challenging time for many people, particularly landholders. The issues relating to water quality are complex and take time to work through. However, there’ll also be opportunities to take a fresh look at how we can innovate and do things differently to look after our water.

Working together, we can make a difference to our water quality and reduce the impact that land-use practices have on the natural environment. Better water quality will mean a more resilient Southland and a thriving future.

As we continue our work, there will be opportunities for you to get involved and have your say about how you value Southland’s water.
